Prof. Dr. Moustapha Hamdi
Profile
Graduated at the University of Damascus in Syria in Medicine and Surgery, Prof. Dr. Moustapha Hamdi specialises in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. His diversified and complete experience in large hospitals, has allowed him to develop his expertise in aesthetic breast surgery and breast reconstruction. Very human in his approach, Professor Hamdi has also been involved in humanitarian missions in Cambodia, Myanmar and more recently in his native country Syria. Up to now, Prof. Hamdi has personally trained more than 700 surgeons from 80 countries on his breakthrough procedures. He instructs by performing live-surgery demonstrations and one-on-one examinations with his patients. Many of the surgeons who learned his techniques from many international meetings and courses and also by attending the world recognised meeting in aesthetic surgery in Brussels (www.CATBBAS.com) returned home and applied his techniques to benefit their own patients.
Career
Moustapha Hamdi graduated in 1990 at the University of Damascus Syria as a doctor of medicine, surgery and obstetrics. After graduating, he moved to Belgium to complete an internship in general and plastic surgery at the various hospitals of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). He was then part of the academic staff of the Hospital in Glasgow Canniesburn and engaged in microsurgery and breast reconstruction between 1996-1997.
Between 1999 and 2011, Professor Hamdi was one of faculty embers of the Plastic Surgery Department in Gent University Hospital where he also presented his doctoral thesis for Pedicled Flaps in Breast Surgery: a new concept. In 2005, he again explored other horizons and worked three months along with the staff of the PACES Clinic in Atlanta. There, he focused mainly on aesthetic surgery of the eyelids and facial rejuvenation. Since 1 April 2011, Moustapha Hamdi works as a chairman of the department of plastic surgery of the Brussels University Hospital UZBrussel – Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Since 2007, he has been attached as a leading plastic surgeon to the Medical Institute Edith Cavell in Brussels (Chirec group) which moved recently to the Delta hospital. More recently, Prof. Hamdi is appointed as chief of the plastic surgery department in Delta hospital and the Interhospitals-network Chirec. He is also the founder of the European Center for Lymphatic surgery in 2016.
He established the Hamdi Foundation in 2021 as main mission to support breast cancer patients and increase awareness for breast reconstruction. For more info, go to http://www.hamdi.foundation/
With Brussels being his home base, Prof. Hamdi is active in many other locations as well, including Marbella and Dubai.
Affiliations
Thanks to his extensive international experience, Professor Hamdi is the former president of the Royal Belgian Society for Plastic Surgery (RBSPS). He is also active within the scientific committees of the European Society of Plastic Surgeons (EURAPS) and the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS). He is also a member of the International (ISAPS), the American (ASPS and ASRM) and the World Society (WSRM). Additionally, he is a honorary member of the national societies of Syria and Colombia.
He is also national expert and member of the national recognition committee of the ministry of Health in Belgium.
Dr. Karl Waked
Profile
Graduated at the University of Brussels, Dr. Karl Waked is a certified plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon, specialised in aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery, body contouring surgery, high-definition liposculpting, and gluteal aesthetics. He applies state-of-the-art techniques on a daily basis, including breast rejuvenation with inner bra technique, the latest innovations in light-weight breast implants, skin-retraction technology, and complete body make-overs.
He is a staff member at the Plastic Surgery department of the University Hospital Brussels and is a consulting surgeon at the Delta Hospital in Brussels. He consults privately at the Ogeeplast Clinic in Brussels and De Keerweg Clinic in Keerbergen. As a certified plastic surgeon in Spain, he also has a private practice in Marbella.
Career
Born and raised in Ghent, Belgium, Dr. Waked completed his studies in Medicine at the University of Ghent with great honours (magna cum laude). Afterwards, he completed 3 years in General Surgery in Ghent and Bruges, where he focused on abdominal, vascular and cardiac surgery. He was trained by Prof. Dr. Moustapha Hamdi at the prestigious department of the University of Brussels in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Through this personalised training, Prof. Hamdi taught him the most important aspects within the field of aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Waked graduated as a plastic surgeon with the highest distinction (summa cum laude). After his training, he became the associate partner of Prof. Hamdi.
Dr. Waked also completed additional fellowships in Marbella and Paris to receive more in-depth training in bodycontouring and breast reconstructive surgery. In Marbella, he worked closely with Dr. Alexander Aslani to master the technique of bodysculpting and Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery. In Paris, he worked at the renowned Gustave Roussy Oncological Center, for an in-depth training in total and partial breast reconstruction after breast cancer by Dr. Nicolas Leymarie.
Over the years, Dr. Waked published numerous articles in several peer-reviewed journals and has presented on several national and international scientific meetings.
Affiliations
Dr. Waked is co-founder and board member of the MedTech company Augmented Anatomy, which focuses on visualising the human anatomy through augmented reality during surgical procedures. In addition, he is founder and Past-President of the non-profit organisation Belgian Society of Plastic Surgery Residents (BRPS). He is Fellow of the Collegium Chirurgicum Plasticum (CCP) and member of the Royal Belgian Society of Plastic Surgery (RBSPS), the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), and the European Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ESAPS).
