What is an eyelid correction ?

An eyelid correction or blepharoplasty is a procedure to treat droopy eyelids and to restore a younger, fresher look of the complete eye frame. It is the best option to restore heavy or droopy eyelids, puffy eyelids, or loose skin around the eyes. During the procedure, excess skin, muscle, and/or fat can be removed, depending on the clinical investigation.

Blepharoplasty technique

An upper eyelid correction gives you an improved vision, less tired look, and less heavy eyelids. The focus is on removing the excess skin, and sometimes fat and muscle in case of puffy eyelids. It is usually performed under local anesthesia and in an outpatient setting. This means that you can go home shortly after the procedure.

A lower eyelid correction gives you improvement of under eye bags, smoothening of the groove, and fuller cheekbones (if needed). The focus is on removing excess fat and skin, together with muscle tightening in case of droopy eyelids or under-eye bags. The incision may either be on the inside of the eyelid or on the outside underneath the lower eyelashes. In some people, the lower eyelid may be tightened or secured to the bony skeleton. A lower blepharoplasty can be performed under local or general anaesthesia, depending on the indication.

Benefits and recovery period

Recovery from a blepharoplasty is relatively short, compared to other types of surgeries. Immediately after the procedure, you’ll be moved to a recovery room. You’ll be monitored for side effects and, unless there are any complications, you’ll go home the same day.

The incisions are barely visible after the healing period. When performed well, nobody will ever notice the scar. The procedure has a limited downtime and requires easy wound care.
